DALI-2 Lighting Control: Implementation & Compliance in Commercial Buildings

DALI-2 is the current standard for addressable digital lighting control, and it's the backbone of compliant emergency and general lighting systems in most new commercial builds across Sydney. Unlike DALI-1, DALI-2 mandates strict device certification, giving building owners confidence that luminaires, sensors and controllers from different manufacturers will interoperate correctly on the same bus.

Where DALI-2 fits in commercial buildings

We specify and commission DALI-2 for office fitouts, retail tenancies and mixed-use towers where individual luminaire addressing, daylight harvesting and AFSS-compliant emergency lighting testing are required. Each fitting on the bus is individually addressable, which means dimming curves, scenes and emergency test schedules can be configured and audited per-luminaire rather than per-circuit.

Compliance in NSW

Emergency lighting on DALI-2 networks needs to meet AS 2293 testing and reporting requirements. We configure automated monthly and annual test cycles, log results for AFSS reporting, and integrate DALI-2 emergency circuits with building management systems where required.

Integration with C-Bus and Dynalite

DALI-2 is a lighting-layer protocol, not a whole-building automation system on its own — most of our commercial projects bridge DALI-2 luminaire control into a C-Bus or Dynalite network via a DALI gateway, giving facility managers a single interface for scenes, schedules and fault reporting across the whole site.
