💡

Lights Stuck On

Rooms fully lit and won't turn off. Keypads not responding. Often caused by a failed relay module or shorted input.

Lights Won't Turn On

Pressing buttons does nothing. Whole zones or individual circuits dead. Usually a failed dimmer unit or network communication fault.

🔌

Flickering / Flashing

Lights randomly flickering, flashing or cycling. Classic sign of a failing dimmer module, wiring fault or network error.

Keypads Dead

Buttons on wall panels not responding. Could be a dead keypad unit, network communication failure or 12V power supply fault.

📌

Scenes Not Working

Scene buttons do nothing, scenes trigger randomly, or only some lights respond. Usually programming or network corruption.

🔴

After Power Outage

System stopped working after a blackout or power surge. C-Bus can lose programming or suffer hardware damage from power events.

What To Do Now

Before You Call —
Check These First

A few quick checks may help describe the fault accurately when you call, saving diagnostic time on-site. Don't try to fix the system yourself — cutting power repeatedly can corrupt C-Bus network data.

1

Check the C-Bus power supply

Is the green network LED on the power supply unit illuminated? A dead PSU takes the whole network down.

2

Note which zones are affected

Is it one room, one floor, or the whole building? This narrows the fault to a specific module or the main network.

3

Check for error indicators

Any red LEDs on units in the C-Bus cabinet? Note which units they are on. This is extremely useful information.

FAQs

C-Bus Not Working —
Common Questions

Why is my C-Bus system not working? +
The most common reasons a C-Bus system stops working: a failed dimmer or relay module, a C-Bus network communication error, a power supply failure, a keypad or input unit fault, or programming corruption. An accredited technician can usually diagnose the root cause within the first hour on-site.
My C-Bus lights are stuck on — what do I do? +
Lights stuck on in a C-Bus system are usually caused by a failed relay or dimmer module, a shorted input, or a programming trigger fault. Do not attempt to fix this by cutting power repeatedly — this can corrupt C-Bus network data. Call an accredited C-Bus technician to diagnose and fix the root cause safely.
Can C-Bus be repaired without replacing the whole system? +
Yes — C-Bus is a modular system. In the vast majority of cases, only the failed module or component needs replacing. Full system replacement is rarely necessary. We will identify exactly which unit has failed and replace only that component.
My C-Bus stopped working after a power outage — is it damaged? +
Possibly. Power surges and outages can cause C-Bus dimmer modules to fail, corrupt network programming, or damage the power supply unit. In most cases the damage is limited to one or two modules and is repairable. Call us to assess the situation.
Can a general electrician fix my C-Bus system? +
Only if they hold current Clipsal C-Bus accreditation. C-Bus is a proprietary network system — general electrical knowledge is not sufficient to diagnose network, programming or module faults. Using an unaccredited person risks further damage to the system. Sydney Automation Co. holds current C-Bus accreditation.
